I read lots of literature and try to find the method, but none useful method was found. So i want to know that have you found an effective way to dissolve Cr2O3 calcinated once at 1000°C. My email: [email protected], looking forward to your reply, thanks.
Hi! nice to meet you too. Till now, no way to easly solve Cr2O3 in solution, I'm sorry. In my case, I have gone around the obstacle with a solid state reaction in vacuum to obtain the compound of my interest. You could try in this direction if it is possible for your system. Bye!
These chromium oxide are difficult to dissolved by simple mineral acids. but you can try acids like HMnO4/ (HNO3_KMnO4) mixture or simple in Dissolved ozone in acid medium or DM water.

Cr2O3 is a refractory material, digestion by conventional method using mineral acids is tedious and difficult. In our laboratory we have dissolve it using fusion and microwave dissolution method. In the fusion method ~100 mg of Cr2O3 is fused with 1.0g of KHSO4 at 790 (oC) for 10 minutes. It was easily dissolved using dilute acid of HCl/HNO3. In the second method, that is microwave dissolution, it was dissolved using 3ml H2SO4 and 2 ml HCl at 550 W power of MW within half an hour. Second method is very suitable if your are interested for its trace impurities analysis.
Chromium(III) oxide (Cr2O3) can be reactively dissolved with sulfuric acid (~85 wt%; H2SO4/Cr2O3 ≥ 6 wt/wt) mixed with perchloric acid (HClO4/Cr2O3 ≈ ½ wt/wt) by ~175 ºC (≤ 4h; under reflux).
