The Modern Racism Scale (McConahay, 1986) is perhaps the most widely-used measure of modern racism and has been translated and validated in French (Dambrun & Guimond, 2001). Er-rafiy and Brauer (2013) also discuss alternative methods that they have used to measure modern racism in the French context. In fact, I'd suggest you look at the work of Martin Brauer and colleagues more broadly, as they've done quite a bit of work on prejudice in France. An alternative method would be to use the Implicit Association Test.

These studies are flawed in that they all start from the assumption that racism can only be practised  by native French, white French, or Gallic French, and the intention behind them is to hold French natives under the gun of  being "racist" if they don't accept having their nation colonized by hordes of Muslims and Africans, that is, by people who actually come from illiberal, hyper-patriarchal, and racist cultures. 

May I ask you Camille; are you interest in the racism of Africans and Muslims?

There is nothing racist about wanting France to remain French, Gallic, that is a normal human, healthy attitude, and the National Front is correct in this respect.

de Sousa thinks that my use of the terms "hordes" or "racist cultures" (in regards to the more racist cultures of the Third World) does not help in the pursuit of research on this topic, but he forgets that the topic is about "racism" in Europe, and this is a word that has been directed almost entirely against Europeans who show any attachment to their ethnic identity or question the way mass immigration is being imposed on their homelands without any consent from the voters but by administrative fiat and deceptive indoctrination about how "European countries have been diverse from the beginning of time" or how "Diversity is a strength". 

I think the term "hordes" is appropriate to describe the entry of millions of Africans and Muslims into Europe within a short time span. In Germany alone, this year we have seen the influx of more than one million asylum seekers, most of whom are men, contrary to the media efforts to show mostly children and women.

So, when someone asks a seemingly innocent question about measuring racism, we should see this "modern racism scale" for what it is: a tool to track down and label any European who questions the take over of his homeland by African and Muslim colonizers as "racist". This is a tool for the ever expanding totalitarian PC state trying to create a diverse European continent and destroy the ethnic integrity of Europeans. 

Perhaps a measure of explicit or old-fashioned racism would be more appropriate to measure your brand of racism. 

Perhaps Swami can be so kind as to tell us what he means by "racism" before hurling this label against an academic, knowing the negative connotations of this label, which can only be interpreted as an effort, on his part, to close off debate rather than engage in scholarly exchange.

I will say that I consider the caste system that still prevails in Indian social life to be racist. I believe that every ethnic group (keeping in mind the historical realities of particular nations, the fact that there has been mixture in some), has the right to national-ethno self-determination. I have suggested that this question has to be contextualized in terms of the now decades-old effort, by both leftist and corporate elites, to diversify European countries. This effort has fuelled the National Front's popularity in France, so much so that in the most recent elections, the left and the right came together to stop NF candidates from getting elected.

Take note: left and right candidates joined together, the cultural Marxist left and the corporate/globalist right. 

This is the context for this interest in a racism scale; and the interest is to measure the supposed racism of National Front voters, and French natives who stand up to the invasion of their homeland by hordes of Africans and Muslims, at the behest of the traitorous elites in power. First, Thanks a lot Viren, the scale you are talking about is the one we were interested in and the one we will finally use for our studies.

Second, I don't want to enter in the debate, because it seems to be a dead end. Duchesne, just to say, I'm aware of the possible existence of "black and muslim racism", I'm also aware (and agree, until a certain point) that there is no shame to be proud of our nationality, values as a country and all.

I also think the study of the "black and muslim racism" may be a really interesting kind of study, but that's not the point of my studies (actually, my studies are not based on the assumption that racism can only be performed by white people neither, but, again, that's not the point). 

Just for finish, I think that it's not because Black and Muslims can be racists that it legitimize the fact of being a white racist. And, actually, saying that "it's not racism to be against the rape of British women by Muslim" is totally racist! Personnally, I'm against the rape, independently of the nationality neither of the rapist nor of the victim. A rape isn't more horrible if performed by an immigrant.

I will outline here in point form what I have been trying to convey in this exchange:

i) Every single racism scale I have read about in Western textbooks, as a sociology professor, and in psychology texts, invariably focus on white racism; when one reads the narrative in the texts, the examples of racism offered, and the surveys listed, it is always about whites who are racist against non-white minorities.

Ii) I believe that these racism scales are currently being promoted and emphasized in the West as a means of enforcing upon whites acceptance of diversity, threatening them with accusations of "racism" if they even question the imposition of mass immigration by both the corporate elites (looking for cheap labor and for consumers), and by the academic/media leftist elites determined to destroy European identity, on the grounds that this identity, in and of itself, is racist, all the while promoting the identity of non-whites through multiculturalism.

Iii) If  non-European immigrants, or non-European citizens, are so concerned with racism, why do they always hide the more insidious forms of racism in their own countries and their own communities in Europe, while being so eager to use this label against any white merely for raising these very questions? 

I rest my case. 

(1)   You are right that most measures of racism focus on negative attitudes directed at people of colour. To take the concept of symbolic racism as an example, the theory was developed in the 1960s as new forms of racism began to replace old-fashioned or explicit racism and sought to describe a form of racism that is more abstract and ideological. McConahay, for example, developed the Modern Racism Scale to better understand White opposition to desegregation. Most contemporary scholars working in this area continue to focus on White racism aimed at people of colour for a very simple reason: by nearly any metric – from employment to police treatment to education – statistics indicate drastically poorer outcomes for people of colour compared to Whites (e.g., Bertrand & Mullainathan, 2004; Brika et al., 1997; Knowles et al., 2001; Krueger et al., 2006; Munnel et al., 1996; Smith & Trimble, 2016; United Nations, 2009). This is not to say that other forms of racism do not exist; of course they do. But those forms of racism are not the dominant expression and experience of racism in contemporary, Western societies, whether at the internalised, interpersonal, or systemic levels (Berman et al., 2010; Paradies, 2006; United Nations, 2009). Of course, you are free to claim that virtually the entirety of academia is engaged in some sort of misguided mission to focus on White racism because they are in thrall to Western elites promoting multiculturalism, but that, Duchesne, is a conspiracist belief. By the way, I also study conspiracist beliefs (for a review, see Swami & Furnham, 2014). In short, there are good reasons to focus on White racism against people of colour.

(2)   Your belief that measures of racism are being promoted for nefarious means is simply that – your belief. What you are engaging in is, in fact, what Norton and Sommers (2011) have described as a view of racism as a zero-sum game (effectively, “less racism against you means more racism against me”). In so doing, you are mirroring the arguments of fascists and the extreme far-right in Europe and North America (e.g., van Dijk, 1993; Rooysacker & Verkuyten, 2012). Everything you have said on this forum – that governments are a soft touch on the issue of migration, that immigrants are backward and barbaric, that immigrants are too far removed from “White” culture – are exactly those arguments used by fascists and racists in their contemporary discourse. Augoustinos and Every (2007) termed these arguments “discursive deracialisation” – these sorts of arguments seek to hide the motive for opposing outgroups and replace them with seemingly non-racist arguments (Goodman & Burke, 2011). The truth is, however, that they are racist in nature and content. The fact that you align yourself with these forms of arguments makes you, ipso facto, a racist.

(3)   Your final argument is a non sequitur argument. As it happens, I have examined the outcomes and effects of racism in my home country (see Swami, 2013). I even adapted the Modern Racism Scale to measure racist attitudes toward people of Chinese ancestry in that study. Didn’t see that coming, did you?

On a more personal note, I have been flippant in my responses to you because I think there is very little point in engaging with racists like yourself. You hide behind the cloak of “academic freedom” to spout a racist ideology that seeks to patronise, vilify, and ‘other’ people of colour. As a person of colour, as someone who has experienced racism, as someone who has seen first-hand the effects of racism, as someone who has fought and continues to fight against racism in ALL its forms, I abhor everything you stand for. Finally, after using the vilest forms of expression, Swami attempts an answer at some of the issues I have raised, though relying on the standard interpretations, common in every introduction to psychology text, and ending with the typical use of the label "racist" as a way of monopolizing a debate he can't handle on strictly intellectual grounds.

(1) Let's start on a positive note; he admits, after denying it, that I am right:  racism scales have been used to measure white racism, not the racism of light Indians against darker Indians. But now he adds that  academics have been justified in doing this; why?  Because, he writes,"by nearly any metric – from employment to police treatment to education – statistics indicate drastically poorer outcomes for people of colour compared to Whites".

Imagine, the same person who accuses me of making non sequitur arguments, without ever showing us why, actually makes one here. How can one infer that the economic gap, or educational gap between, say, white and black Americans is a result of racism just on the basis of the existence of these gaps? Obviously, Swami cites the standard leftist literature which keeps repeating for decades that whites are responsible for all the failings of blacks and which fails to look at alternative explanations.

(2) This argument amounts to the claim that any criticism of mass immigration is unwarranted and racist. But let's consider a simple set questions: why it is that immigration  and diversity have been pushed onto Europeans, while Asian countries, India, every non-Western country, does not allow immigration? Why is it that Japan and South Korea, and China, are not accused of "Asian supremacy" or "Japanese supremacy" even though they have closed borders despite low fertility rates? And even though they have explicitly stated they don't want to alter their ethnic make-up?

There is nothing racist about Germans wanting Germany to remain majority ethnically German, or Brits lamenting the way their neighbourhoods have been overwhelmed by massive numbers of Muslims, Indians, Pakistanis, and Africans. You are the racist one, and all those who demand that Europeans hand over their ancestry and identity to big corporations looking for diversity and anti-white academics.

Ok, so now I'm really tired.

Just to refocus, I am the one who is interested in racism and prejudice. Viren just entered in the debate because he kindly answered to my question.

If you are so persuaded that you won the debate, then why you continue to expose your ideas?

Can I ask why you are so interested in this muslims racism problematic in Europe? And why you need so much to expose your ideas again and again? I think that your behavior really don't serves your talk. You may have ideas with references, but the fact that you need to spit on people just make everyone think that it is a personal matter, and not a robust theory.

I don't want to delete my question, because I think the first answer can serve others people, and that some people may be interested in the "debate" made in here.

But, that seems to be a really dead end, so you need to stop shouting your opinions again and again. You have exposed your thoughts in your first message, may be the second brings some others, but after that it's all about spitting on others and that's useless.

Even my first-year undergraduates know how to find papers when they're provided with a reference, so I'm not sure why it should be so taxing for an academic who claims to always be winning debates and is never in the wrong about anything ever. But hey, what do I know? I'm just a backward, dark-skinned barbarian who has nothing better to do than to whine about racism. 

Camille, you're right: this thread has run its full course and is now at a dead end. For what it's worth, I suggest keeping the topic live rather than deleting it. If nothing else, it serves as a record of one man's arrogance, ignorance, and obliviousness. (And Camille, I just wanted to say again that I hope you're research goes well. Despite Duchesne's claims to the contrary, you are working on an important topic.)

It is typical of the left to want to delete ideas they can't handle, so go ahead and delete what I said, and leave the convenient answers; it will benefit you to do so since, as a student, you are expected to only consider leftist answers.

I know, merely to bring up the fact that Muslim countries are far more racist than white-created countries causes anxieties among leftist conformists who follow the standard line that racism scales should only be used to track white "racists".  It was this attitude that led British social workers, the police, and media, to ignore the many complaints that were being filed by British white girls against their systematic raping by Muslim Pakistani gangs:
