My thesis was about the role of taurine in sturgeon diet. Taurine synthesis ability in fish is species-specific. some like common carp are fully capable and other like flounder are fully un-capable to synthesize taurine. Accordingly, taurine requirement of different species is widely variable (0.2-6 % of diet!!). Let me know if you have any question
Hello! Thank you for your answer. I am currently working on the effect of salinty in taurine production for brakishwater fish. But, I am also interested on the taurine synthesis pathways in fish. Are you familiar with taurine receptor genes? Or any other enzymes aside from CDO amd CSD that aids in taurine production?
In my point of view, salinity greatly affects taurine synthesis. CDO and CSD are key enzyme catalyzing taurine production in animal liver. You may need to look at the availability of other molecules such as B12 and serine (for example) on taurine synthesis. I am not experienced enough about taurine receptors, unfortunately.
