I have only participated in the treatment of court ordered pedophiles. When doing so, I found minimal literature on this population.

Nonetheless, I think it will be very difficult for you to obtain reliable and valid population prevalence estimates via the use of general surveys. You will be limited primarily to surveying treated and convicted pedophiles in correctional and forensic settings , as well as websites that attract this population, but you will encounter significant difficulties with surveying websites for persons with these interests. Nonetheless, I would not be discouraged if you only can study prevalence rates in sex offender populations and in treatment settings, e.g. for priests in the Catholic Church. However, you might encounter barriers in gaining access to this kinds of data.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have obtained data on the number of registered pedophiles, but there is no more accurate data on the treatment measures in penal conditions. Through internet lures I came up with information about potential perpetrators that I will link to the number of sex offenses committed against children. The police provided very good information until the Ministry of Justice had it. It is certainly a difficult topic, but it needs to be addressed.

Not much on that topic but speculation. Rarely do any sexual predators admit to engaging in the paraphilic behavior until post conviction and in treatment. If you find data, please share. I am interested in the topic.

Please let me know if you need more research from Germany (we do not have mandatory reporting law here, therefore we have other options in research and therapy), as well as from Canada and maybe the US. However, data from the latter might usually be from convicted individuals with pedosexual behavior, which is different from men with pedophilic orientation.

And dear Scott - a "sexual predator" (we do not use that kind of term anymore btw) is not the same as a man with pedophilic orientation/interest.

Is it important to understand the difference between pedophilia and sexual offending against children. Therefore, if you are looking for prevalence of pedophilia with pedophilic disorder, non-pedophilia with pedophilic disorder, or non-pedophilia nor pedophilic disorder associated with sexual offending against children you should read Blanchard et al., 2011, Eher et al., 2019, and Breiling et al., 2020. Not all child sexual offenders are pedophiles nor all pedophiles´sex offenders.

As far has I'm concern, there is not research about a psychotherapy properly standardized for persons with pedophilia (and who have been well diagnosed) in penal conditions. Klaus Beier published an article about behavioral-cognitive therapy for persons with pedophilia (in non-forensic samples)(Beier et al., 2015). However, Mokros and Banse (2019) found not such efficacy of behavioral-cognitive therapy reported by Beier et al., 2015. Therefore, if you research is the importance to promotes policies of psychological help for pedophiles who committed sexual offense in penitentiaries, your work will help tremendously to reduce the recidivism and decrease child sexual victimization.
