I am working on my master's proposal on specific reading comprehension skills in an English class in a bilingual school in Puerto Rico, and I have been searching for a pre-existing validated pre-test/post-test on determining main idea and making inferences to present to IRB. This step would truly help a lot to further the study.
If anyone has knowledge of this, or has one and is willing to share it, I would be so incredibly grateful and, of course, I would give credit to the author, if I am able to use it.

I need a validated instrument that specifically assesses determining main idea and making inferences. I would like to use it as a pre-test and post-test in my master's thesis study.
I have created a test of my own, which I believe is good, but I would prefer to use an instrument that has already been validated by experts so that I may present it to IRB and be able to move forward with my study.
I know that there are many experts in the field of English reading comprehension, and I would appreciate any help that I is given.

I apologize for the delay, I just got back to my research.
Do you have a specific grade or age level for your study?
Most public schools teach and test these skills and we are required to use "research based" assessments.
We begin teaching main idea and inferences in First Grade, but it continues through high school, so knowing the age/grade level is important.
As a researcher you will probably need to provide the metrics on the test to IRB, so it may be beneficial to go directly to the school board who selects the curriculum or the company that develops it.
The Pearson company develops many state standardized tests as well as curricula for public schools. Other textbook companies my district uses are McGraw-Hill and Houghton-Mifflin.
If you contact the company directly and explain what you are doing, they might be happy to help you. I would start with Pearson and tell them a Florida teacher who uses Success Maker referred you.
If that does not work, write back, and I will try to help you through my district contacts.
