A 5th-grade student was brought to the SP office due to eating paper.  I am sure his parents are informed of his behavior but have not had him evaluated by a medical professional. His teacher has tried providing him gum but he swallows it and goes back to eating paper.  The behavior is distracting to the other students and to himself. Has anyone dealt with this situation?  What behavioral recommendations can I provide to the teacher? Is there any substitution that can be given that may mimic the texture of paper?
