if you have 2 distinct peaks in the raman spectra especially at ~1342 and 1578  cm-1 region which could be correlated to the presence of the D and G bands respectively. The D band is related to the degree of disorderness while the G band corresponds to the presence of the graphitized carbon.

Using the arc- plasma method, you get the ionic carbide MgC2. By the method of plastic deformation, you get carbon particles in the magnesium matrix. Therefore, you do not receive the Raman spectrum of carbon in the powder obtained by the arc- plasma method. Find the Raman spectrum of magnesium carbide obtained by the arc- plasma method and compare it with your own. The stoichiometry of your carbide may not correspond to the pure MgC2 carbide.

Thank you for your response. You are right that I should get some Raman Peaks at ~1342 and 1578  cm-1 for D and G band, respectively. Unfortunately, for my Mg/C based powder sample, I didn't find any peaks at these regions which seems to be surprising. However, there are peaks after plastic deformation of powder, where both peaks are equally dominant. Thank you for your further comments.
