In recent years optimism in AI has started to grow again, pushed by the introduction of “deep learning” algorithms based on artificial neural networks. These sophisticated learning techniques have reached impressive levels of performance, leading to the development of several mass-market applications.

As the AI field is developing rapidly, the opportunities for applying this technology in psychological research and practice are growing. However, despite this potential, research in this interdisciplinary area is still in its infancy.
