UOIT offers a wonderful virtual Master of Education program. They literally offer courses in virtual classrooms (Adobe Connect). Does anyone know of other programs like this around the world? I would love to connect with them and do some research on this form of learning.

The current list of universities offering some or entirely online learning, undergraduate and/or graduate, is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Distance_education_institutions. Of course, UOIT is at the forefront in terms of fully online learning. Some other leaders include The Open University UK (http://www.openuniversity.edu/online-degrees), The Open University of Catalonia (http://www.uoc.edu/portal/en/) *take a look at grad ed programs - cutting edge*, and the University of Liverpool. Having said this, even those programs which have a token residential period are contributing to the meaningful development of virtual pedagogy and learner-directed instructional design (U of Athabasca, Calgary, John Hopkins, Oxford, Glasgow...). I will be commencing the EdD program at Glasgow this September; can feed back on the experience, if helpful. As a graduate of UOIT's fully online MEd program, I can also attest to the fact that the limitless opportunities to receive and provide constructive feedback within virtual programs are the single-most important factor contributing to the learner's educational growth and higher order criticality. This, in turn, contributes directly to the ongoing formation of collective intelligence. A win-win, in my opinion.
In light of our discussion, I would like to bring to everyone's attention two recent items worthy of a few moments of your time, dealing with the larger issue of pedagogy and, within it, the role of the teacher in instructional design for lifelong learning.
