The new Dutch Compulsory Mental Healthcare Act (Wet verplichte ggz) provides for the possibility to treat somatic diseases in psychiatric patients under coercion. This regulation differs from the Dutch Medical Treatment Contracts Act (Wet op de geneeskundige behandelingsovereenkomst), which contains only limited possibilities for coercive somatic treatment. I wonder whether there are any other countries where a special regulation applies to coercive treatment of somatic diseases in psychiatric patients. I am especially interested in patients' and professionals' experiences with coercive somatic treatment under such special regulations.
