Hi everyone, Have you every used a smartwatch to measure ECG in one of your studies? What is your experience? Any suggestions for the brand? I would like to use such measure mainly as a manipulation check not primary outcome. Thanks in advance.
Yes Shival I am agree with your statement Till now Smartwatch is not Scientifically robust tool but in future better Innovative smart may sufficient for research purposes
If you need continuous ECG recording I would advice to use a patch (it can measure and record the ECG for a few days e.g. chest monitor from biobeat) or an implantable loop recorder (Biomonitor) if long term recording of events is needed (years). Watches will only store ECG strips (short episodes) upon demand or upon alert (irregular rhythm). Gold standard is stil a holter recording - but pactches are more convinient to use.
Apple series 5 are available in market they not only measure the heart rate but also displays ECG to detect Atrial fibrillation , definitely not distinguish the abnormal rhythm from normal rhythm. Definitely not suitable for Research purposes til now
Definitely new smart watch having sensor for recording the EGG but it's not robust scientifically.Better to proceed with other tool that is validated for research purposes
