Especially Yukl (1999) argued the overlap among the dimensions, can you define other researchers in the same line. Or are there different questionnaires to measure Transformational Leadership?
The modern idea of Transformational Leadership is based around 4 elements described by Bernard A. Bass in 1985. These components of Transformational Leadership include:
1-Individualized Consideration,
2-Intellectual Stimulation,
3-Inspirational Motivation, and
4-Idealized Influence.
Each of these components are positively related to individual and organizational performance.
Yes Dear Dr. You are right. But if you go through the literature or the reference that I pointed out argue that idealised influence and inspirational motivation is not clear to separate or int. Stimulation does not represent the extent or level of leaders encourage to followers to increase innovation as Bass explained
I agree with you Taylan, I think inspirational motivation and idealized influence are very similar constructs, thus there may be 3 factors in transformational leadership. I've worked with the MLQ a lot and frequently find that the subscales of transformational and transactional leadership don't always group in the same ways in various samples.
Guy Curtis it is slightly different but a bit confusing. Based on Bass (1990), my understanding of Idealized influence or Charismatic leadership is "vision and sense of mission, instills pride, gains respect, and trust', while Inspirational motivation is more on leader have a higher expectation to their follower.
Elly Juliana, I agree with you that this is how they are defined. What I've seen practically with the Multi-factor leadership questionnaire is that II and IM can sometimes correlate highly and/or load on a single factor. This doesn't mean they are one factor of transformational leadership that is undifferentiated, it may mean that the MLQ is not sufficiently sensitive to tell the difference. :)
