Hi Elizabeth, the Orcasound project is thinking about bringing the Newport mid-shelf hydrophone into our web app ( see live.orcasound.net ) to work towards near real-time detection of endangered orcas by humans and AI, especially during the winter months when satellite tag data suggest at least L and K pods are foraging along the BC-WA-OR-CA shelf near river mouths, especially the Columbia.
Hi there Scott - that's fabulous! I am just about to start the review process for the data (the last 6 months have been spent working on data access and extraction), so I can let you know what I find in the historical data. I'm also happy to share information regarding what I've discovered in terms of data storage format, recorder status, etc. should that be helpful. I spent a couple of fun February months off Pac NW on Brad Hanson's PODs surveys so think the OOI data would be a valuable asset for SRKW acoustic observations.
