If you are required to or choose to make a diagnosis, how do you choose which diagnostic system to use?
If you are a psychiatrist or a psychologist, I am seeking your participation in a survey about your preferred methods for diagnosing personality disorders. This survey is also relevant to those who you do not formally diagnose personality disorders, because I am also keen to know what other approaches to personality are used.
Both the DSM and ICD are moving towards a dimensional conceptualisation of personality disorders. ICD-11 proposes a fully dimensional model for diagnosing personality disorders that does not use the categorical labels of ICD-10. However, in DSM-5, the categorical DSM-IV model was retained with a new model also included as an alternative. This potentially creates a dilemma for practitioners as to which to use or whether to find alternatives for diagnosing personality pathology.
Please consider participating in this survey exploring your choice of diagnostic systems for personality disorders. We recommend using a computer to complete the survey.
