Nowadays, many governments are increasingly introducing populist schemes, often by distributing free goods or offering subsidies, primarily to gain electoral support. While such programs may provide short-term relief, they often lack a focus on sustainable income generation or capacity building for individuals. One significant unintended consequence of these initiatives is the emergence of labour shortages, as free or subsidized provisions can reduce the incentive to work. This, in turn, can have detrimental effects on the economy, particularly in labour-intensive sectors like agriculture and construction.
