I have done RVE simulation of nano-sized particulate polymer composite for the different volume fractions of 0 to 40% and the different size of the particles of 1 nm to 100's of nm in COMSOL. Anyway, I am getting the effective modulus variations for volume fraction change only not for the particle size. Based on the literature of experimental data, particle size effect is there in polymer composites. Everyone knows well that particle size effect is there because at nano size particle behavior may change. So can anyone give suggestions for me? Looking for the fruitful information. Thank you.

Perhaps I do not understand your question fully... I think that you can get what you explain in COMSOL, but only if you introduce the math that describes that effect... I mean, COMSOL just solves the differential equation + constitutive equations + boundary conditions + constants you specify, i.e. if there is no implicit change in the behavior of the equation with the size, or a change in material properties or boundary conditions with the size, then you will not capture the effect. So I would ask myself, does the model I'm using capturing that? if not, what I need to add to the model to capture that?

My question is,
Effective mechanical properties are getting same for all the particle range at nanosize and even in micron also through RVE simulation which is done in COMSOL for particulate polymer composite. So many researchers mentioned that the effective properties will change at critical radius value of nano particle by conducting number of experiments. Now I am trying to reduce the experimentation for my problem by solving it through simulation to find the critical radius value at which the effective mechanical properties getting changed. For that I am asking how to get the same in simulation through COMSOL or any tool.

Hi. I'm simulating a hexagonal lattice in comsol using RVE method of homogenization. The problem is for the same fraction of two materials, by changing the size of the object the mechanical properties like young and shear modulus are changing.
According to the attached picture by changing the height of the structure, the volume fraction of two materials don't change while the mechanical properties changing a lot.
I see some wrong results in the order 10e27 which is imposible and I,m sure there is a problem in comsol simulation or wrong implementation from comsol software.
This the results. 0.1 Gpa chane so huge and the change increases more and more at some heights.
