As is well known, multi-spectral remote sensing revolutionize several areas in source mapping, such as crops yield estimation. And now hyper-spectral remote is giving more promises to advance these areas. Now the question is do we have to expect to see some time soon multi-spectral digital cameras in the hands of average consumers and this is building on the success in the remote sensing area. I think the market is ready but these cameras should be sold at affordable prices.
If budget matters, you can now use any type of digital camera for image acquisition. Of course, they will not be calibrated, you will only have three bands and the resolution will be lower. But you can achieve already excellent results with a good SLR camera (from 1000 to 3000 $)
Dear Julien thank you very much for your reply. May be I'm not clear enough in my details. I do mean cameras with more than 3 channels. For example like the first generation of Landsat MSS, which has 4 channels or bands. Yes, I'm using Point and Shoot digital cameras as well as SLR such as Cannon EOS D60. We are looking for Digital Cameras with more than 3 channels and at affordable prices. One again thank you for your reply.
note that you can "customize" a point and shoot camera to get the aditionnal infrared band (but then you need 2 cameras, one for RGB and one for NIR).
