I would have to hear more about the specific interests of your research, but below I have included some articles I have read regarding facial expression and facial expression analysis. Facial expression has been the focus of emotion research for over a hundred years and is central to several leading theories of emotion (Cohn et al., 2007). Though a number of facial coding systems exist, the Facial Action Coding System (FACS) is the most comprehensive, psychometrically rigorous, and widely used (Cohn et al., 2007). Using video-recorded facial behavior at a slow rate, coders can code nearly all possible facial expressions, which are decomposed into action units (AUs) (Cohn et al., 2007). Unlike systems that use emotion labels to describe expression, FACS explicitly distinguishes between facial actions and emotion inferences. While FACS explicitly distinguishes between facial action and emotion inferences, the overwhelming majority of its application has been to make emotional inferences. Although the “common view” of emotional expression is prevalent, some researchers argue that instances of the same emotion category are neither reliably expressed through nor perceived from a common set of facial movements (Barrett et al., 2019).
