Hi I am looking to set up method for testing triterpenoids in Ganoderma lucidum spore oil. If any one can guide me which triterpenoids should be analysed as there are lots of triterpenoids in different natural products.
In our previous assay looking into the ergosterol content of this fungus product from commercial source, an HPLC analysis was applied. Even if the compounds are non-polar, a reverse phase C18 -based HPLC column is better for their separation. For these terpenoids’ composition, luckily, they have UV chromophore and can be detected by UV in the region of 280 nm. If you are working with an unknown sample and have a terpenoid with no double bond, the detection system by UV is not good and you can miss them out. Another kind of detector, if at all you have one, is therefore necessary to capture/detect such compounds. Good Luck.
