Dear colleagues, to improve a wastewater treatment plant, I need to check the current situation of the plant in terms of treatment process. In fact, I have to prepare the excel file for checking the process calculation and description. The wastewater treatment plant has been designed based on a two-stage treatment process called Adsorption/Bio-oxidation (A-B), a treatment process for high rate wastewater as well as managing organic shocks. Since AB process has been utilized for a short time and that is not applied for designing wastewater treatment plant anymore, I could not find design criteria to examine how the process work. I would be most grateful if you can provide me with required criteria and design examples of this process (AB) in order to help me to prepare the excel file. I appreciate you for your invaluable comments and cooperation.
If this is the AB process from the 1990s, then the B-stage is an extended aeration activated sludge system, and designed accordingly.
So all you need know is the A-stage. at the time the process was seen as patented by Dr Bohnke. It is a short-contact time system, and produces a sludge that is rather nasty to handle. It has become more popular in recent times because the sludge is seen as a valuable resource for subsequent anaerobic digestion to recover energy - the A-stage acts as a high-rate settling tank, with the aeration tank providing limited growth and flocculation rather than classical oxidative treatment.

Thank you Mr. Dudley. So, I check the A-stage of the treatment process in accordance with the criteria mentioned in the doctorate dissertation. Hope we find out the design criteria by which the consultant has designed the A/B process.
