I can't help with the scales of moral cleansing, but I would note that in my experience in industry NO manager has EVER offered compensation after an 'unethical action'. Such recompense has to be forced out of them by legal process. As such, then studying case notes of industrial compensation claims would be beneficial. Best wishes with your researches!
