Elouise Ford, RN,BSN, MHEd, MSN
ABSTRACT
Background: Nursing educators' philosophy to teaching is significant to nursing students' success and is beneficial to nursing education. Many nurse educators are aware of the power of using encouragement to support students in striving for excellence. More teachers can profit from their influence in assisting students in succeeding in their nursing education. Method: The concept of encouragement is a highly desirable attribute that can be taught to others to assist them in becoming better advocates for their family, friends, and students. This article aims to enlighten nursing faculty of their role as student advocates. Results: Minority students are susceptible to genuine teacher support from those whose opinions are respected. Faculty should learn to evaluate the student-faculty relationship to understand the necessary modifications to build a supportive bond. Conclusion: More studies are warranted regarding the value of nursing faculty's support to nursing students to enhance the profession and empower nursing students.
