Recently the question of a high age limit for Flu Vacc was rised ! Before engaging in discussion about ethics please provide us with your experience , knowledge and/or references about ? What hapens in foregn health systems regarding this question ?
I have never heard of any policies on the upper age limit for FLU vaccination in the elderly. Most heath systems that have FLU vaccination policies generally suggest mass vaccination of at risk populations such as the 65 y.o. and older.
Since there is no probant evidence that FLU vaccine is ineffective in older individuals (> 75, > 85, etc.) there is little chance that any system would recommend an upper age limit.
Of note, vaccination uptake in this sub-population vary greatly and is generally attributed to social, medical or economic determinant.
Thus, a traditional risk-benefit analysis that include variable especially important for the elderly (quality of life, informed consent, etc) is probably the way to go to formulate tailored made individual recommendation for individuals in the upper spectrum of this population.
