Hello,

My research project is on academic stress and coping strategies in undergraduates. I have measured academic stress using the perceived academic stress scale with 5 point likert scale items. For coping strategies, I have also used a questionnaire with 5 point likert scale, it measures three different coping styles: approach coping, avoidant coping and social support coping.

My sample size is 87. I analysed my data on spss.

I have ran a liner regression test separately for each coping style (E.g the independent variable is academic stress and the dependent variable is social support coping). I did this separately for each coping style. my adjusted r square value for this test is -.010

Why is it negative?

The R value is .039, R square value is .001

I used the total scores from the scales. I tested again with the mean scores to see if that changed the value, but it is still negative.

Where am I going wrong??

Would I get marked down on my dissertation if my values are negative, it seems wrong..please help!

thank you,

Haleema
