I am quite fascinated by the work on culturally competent social work. During my M.Phil research I realized the importance of culture for people.Earlier I wanted to define culturally competent social work in Indian perspective, for Phd thesis but later learned that there are several research on it. Can you please guide me on some of the topics under it that are worth reseaching?
this is atopic of/in us social work that has a long long history, so the literature is vast, including books and how to practice scsw books. The first important step is to define scsw and apply this to context or youw own work and environmnet, Think about why it interst syou adn this will help you in a better wya come up with a subtopic.
How about the topic of well-being (quality of life) in India: A social work. perspective (you should select a specific location in India). Good luck.

Culturally competent social work?
You should focus on health and/or education as well as on economic factors and other Implications for well-being practices of selected social workers or ordinary Indian clients. Or Conduct a study of culturally competence care and helping practices with selected Indian practitioners or graduate students, by using survey or questionnaire or interview questions. You should be able to integrate cultural knowledge with skills for a more effective and culturally appropriate helping process. Address organizational constraints that prevent practioners' ability to practice in a culturally responsive manner. I assume that you have a deep knowledge of Indian practitioners or graduate students. You should attack your point. Read relevant literature (extensive online). Good luck.
"apply this to context or youw own work and environmnet" -- to clarify-- cultrally competent social work can be specified differently in a particular context. for e.g., it can start with language- if applicable, providing services in the language of the client, moving forward to understanding and being able to relate, as well as respect to another's culture, especially where there are big differences. it can also apply to social class (sws coming from a background of wealth working wth the poor,) and gender nad diasbility communities/clinets.

Look at those anthropological and social work literatures that deal with mental health using local cultural knowledge, especially context-specific shared knowledge. One example could be Assertive Community Action (ACT).
Modernization has affected culture of each and every country. The culture was somewhere linked with the livelihood of the people in the agricultural societies .
you can also search google scholar, especially for a genreal or overview on the subject which would go back many yeasr when this topic /practice initially developed-- i think this would be a good start before going into specifics, as you are new to it, and will give you ideas for your own work

I recommend Marsiglia and Kulis' Diversity, Oppression, and Change: Culturally Grounded Social Work (Lyceum Books, 2015). I have a book review of it that I can share with you. You may also want to look at my article with Mary Caplan on Understanding Fringe Economic Behavior. I can also share this. It is a meta-ethnography applying the sociological theories of Pierre Boudieu. His seminal work on this is The Logic of Practice.
My take away from all of this is that we err when we attempt to define culture in a macro context. Each of us exists in interlocking and overlapping Bourdieusian fields with their on social rules. It is this micro culture that is most determinative of our behaviors, and the level of culture most likely to be overlooked by researchers.
