How African Africa is? What do you mean?

Hello! With this I meant, to what extent can we still see African natives as the real natives - since there have been so many external influences (Arabs, Europeans), that some argue their 'real' Africanness might not be visible anymore...

To think in terms of Africanness is wrong, its a form of essentialism

for me, coming from Latin America no one thinks like that as we are all mixed or hybrid in our make up

But, for me, postcolonialism is not about a pure non colonial essence rather a programme for mental de colonization

Does that make sense? What do you think anyway?

The main point I want to make in my article is how Postcolonialism mainly focusses on the 'Western' powers as the bad guys, while there throughout history have been other forces than Western that have influenced countries that are now behind on the development scale. I have just started writing , I am still working on my introduction - but I am starting asap!

Emma, there is so much material on what you seek. However, I am constrained as to what I can share because the best material I have found on the matter is a forthcoming book which an A-list publisher has on her stable but which I was privileged to edit. if the tenure of your research lasts till the book's content can be brought to you, I would willingly do so. I however have posers: whose world is the post-colonial world? From the World treaties to multi-lateral organisations and other global bodies that determine direction and move the world; who really controls these and how democratic is democracy?

Interesting questions you ask, I think it is very difficult to answer them however. Whose world is the post-colonial world, is probably for those who truly believe we have reached an era in which colonialism belongs to the past - but of course, not all agree on this having happened. Secondly, it is true that 'the world' is lead by multi-lateral agreements and treaties in which not all participate with an equal amount - this of course makes it difficult to determine whether or not we have actually reached a postcolonial era.

Which book is it that you would recommend me? Maybe I can find it in the University library.
