Can capillary assembly of microparticles/nanoparticles be used to create a mesh like membrane with a defined pore size by using electron beam lithography to etch a grid-like trap pattern into the substrate?

A thermally decomposable thin film like PPA (poly(phthalaldehyde) may be useful to remove the substrate, after the particles have coupled.

I think that the main issue with this method is that the geometry of the capillary trap and the size of the particles need to be finely tuned in order to get coherent fusion of the individual particles.

I'm also unsure if a mesh structure built using fused colloidal particles can even be mechanically stable enough to ensure that the mesh wouldn’t crumble under its own weight.
