I am trying to reduce metronidazole by Zn/Hcl to obtain the pure amine derivative for further reactions. All the papers I read reported this procedure for analytical determination of the drug. In my work I need to isolate the product free from the metal ion I tried the extraction with NaOH and chloroform but I still could not remove the metal salts completely. Any practical advice?
