I'm looking for official and reliable references (books or high-quality research papers) on calculation of chargeable weight and international shipping freight. For airway, chargeable weight is based on gross weight and volumetric weight, whichever is higher as TACT rules issued by IATA. However, for seaway, roadway and railway, I cannot find any book or official material discussing this issue. Practically, I have found several companies proving the rules to calculate international shipping freight for common transport modes, e.g., DHL (https://www.dhl. com/us-en/home/global-forwarding/freight-forwarding-education-center/calculating-chargeable-weights.html). Nevertheless, I am wondering that, when sending goods by seaway, roadway and railway, it is calculated by volume or weight as the approach food at: https://www.advancedontrade.com/2015/03/how-to-calculate-chargeable-weight-in-air-sea-and -road-shipments.html. for seaborne freight (LCL) 1 cubic meter = 1,000 kg, i.e., 1/1
for road transport 1 cubic meter = 333 kilos, i.e., 1/3
for air freight 1 cubic meter = 167 kilos, i.e., 1/6
for railway ...
some providers say: "rail transport service is 50% faster than sea cargo and 60% less expensive than air cargo".
Basically, contact a provider for getting/ requesting a specific quote.

For airway, the density ratio of 1/6000 is defined in TACT rules by IATA. The density ratio 1/1000 for seaway freight and 1/3000 for rail/roadway are commonly applied in practice but I can't find any document or book that defines them officially. Could you please recommend a book, convention, rule or any document which mentions this matter? Thank you so much.
