Well done on your website. I acknowledge how scary it can be to put yourself into the public space, this is an achievement in itself! I might suggest to use a darker font so that there is a greater contrast between the background and the text. It might be helpful as well if you make the font of your menu slightly bigger or bolder. I really enjoy the sketches, they are communicative of your field. You can also consider breaking up your "Mission" block of text a little, perhaps with some paragraph seperation or bullet points somehwere, so that it isn't just one big block of text which is more difficult to read.
