I came across this thread and question via reading the profile of Prof. Dr. Frank Mayer (microbiologist and TEM-ist, retired from the University of Goettingen, Germany) who obviously is NOT the Frank Mayer you are / were searching for...
In addition to Frederico's hints in his first reply:
in the following article: NORRIS et al, Functional Taxonomy of Bacterial Hyperstructures. doi: 10.1128/MMBR.00035-06 Microbiol. Mol. Biol. Rev. | March 2007 | vol. 71 no. 1 pp. 230-253 1 March 2007, cf.: (http://mmbr.asm.org/content/71/1/230.full)
one can find in the:

it seems that "your" Frank Mayer either has changed his name, got member of a Secret Service / Intelligence.org, or died early...
Since he was a post-doc at the WEIZMAN-Institute (Rehovot, Israel, I guess) and left the Institution, or Israel perhaps 1979 or 1980 for the reason of another choice of professional occupation elsewhere one would expect at least four or five scientific articles either as a first or at least co-author....but - instead - no trace....
Thank you so much for your kind (and really fast!) reply.
Shalom, cordially yours, W.M.
("un-Prpf", since I am no Professor at all...(:-)) - just a bit sleepless last night...) W.M.
Thanks again for your quick response. I understood your thesis which suggested that after he left Israel he probably was profesionaly engaged elsewhere and published.
Since you could not find any further publications there is not much that we could further look for.
Again, thank you so much for your kind and helpful manner in which you tried to help me. I appriciate it very much.
