Not a swarm intelligence approach, but by looking at the size of the problems tackled with it, it definitely seems a good candidate for big data applications.

Recently i applied Fractional order Darwinian Particle Swarm Optimization (FO-DPSO) algorithm to direction of arrival estimation problem and results are very good. Routine of these codes are freely available on MATLAB central file exchange server. FO-DPSO may be a good alternative for this problems in my views.
