Could someone explain how to get rid of erroneous absorbance (Tailing effect) of a undoped semiconductor material due to defects and get more accurate band gap value during Tauc Plot?
From the tail you can calculate the Urbach energy first, that gives a measure of the defect density. Basically, it stands for the lowering of the effective gap due to shallow traps near the valence band maximum and conduction band minimum. Although it's not entirely possible to get rid of the tailing effect, the Urbach analysis will at least give you an idea of the possible error in the measurement, which might help you to take the right slope in the Tauc's plot, during bandgap determination.
