While implementing couple of project into the field it never crossed my mind what does the research have impact on the field assistant knowledge base and does field assistant have any impact on the results of the research. If you have any other dimension please do let me know or give more correlations to it.

They do contribute alot to the study as they know the areas much better than us as they are born and brought up there. If the person has right attitude in the field he will pull you out from the most difficult times which will have impact on the study..
If you are talking about the impact of my field assistants on my research?
Depends on person to person.
For example many new species are being described, and then they are becoming extinct (I am talking about plants). Many authors claim that they didnt mention the details of the locations of these species, then obviously it was their field assistants. Something similar has happened with me in field in India. I discovered an orchid and I told my field assistant that this is used in xxxx medicine. Next time all plants were missing. What I heard from sources that the field assistant collected them and sold them in the local market.
On the other hand I know of many field assistants who have been honest.
I must say that I have learnt a lot from them and tried to convey my message for conservation and hopefully some of them did understand. Because of these people I was able to reach places where I had never been.
