IS THERE ANY LITERATURE ABOUT THE EFFECT OF FACE SIDE OF CUBE ON COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH CONCRETE ? e.g IF NDT CARRIED OUT ON DIFFERENT FACES OF SAME CULE ?
For NDT, the compressive strength will varies especially when you use tests such as rebound hammer as the values you get depends on the number of aggregate, voids, volume of cementitious products on the side you're testing; that is why it is advisable to do NDT on different spots on the same side and find the average. If you're using UPV NDT test, your values should be relatively equal on all sides as a larger surface area is involved. However, if you do the destructive test, the compressive strength will be relatively the same on all side as concrete is deemed an isotropic material
Adeyemi Adesina " if you do the destructive test, the compressive strength will be relatively the same on all side as concrete is deemed an isotropic material "
Hi Jahan Zaib . I made that statement based on personal experience, as long as the surface of your specimen is smooth, it doesn't matter which side you test for a cube sample.
Several standards about the compression of cubic samples also does not specify to test a specific side; as long as the surface is smooth to allow for uniform distribution of load, it is good. Ideally, we never test the hand finished side of the specimen as it is not 100% smooth
Bom dia colegas. Boa sorte!
Regarding the second part of your question, the NDT in both direction, casting and perpendicular to casting will exhibit different pulse velocity due to the variation of particles orientation.
It is true that cast and finished surface will have differnet velocity than side surface, even when capping is done on the cast surface. Secondly in general the side surfaces ( all four sides) will show uniform pulse velocity provided sampling and comapction is done as per standard. Only bottom surface is likely to show increased velocity due to high paste at the bottom surface.
As we know the face of casting give more compressive strength than the perpendicular face that occurred due to the application of compaction throw casting.
