Hi, Oksana,

We are agreeing to investigate the corrosion process.

But, in fact, I do not know what you will analyze with SEM.

The specific corrosion progression process you want to unravel.

Do you have EDX (or EDS) attached to your SEM?

Then, it is important to analyze the elemental mapping of the corrosion sample surface and the chemical composition at a point with SEM-EDX.

If possible, you want to measure the shape of the corroded surface and the depth of corrosion observed by SEM.

In addition, you think that it is better to measure the displacement in the depth direction, if possible, on the nanoscale.

You do not necessarily need to be concerned about SEM - EDX. I recommend you to measure with AFM or PSI.

I think that the chemical structure of corroded 316 L austenitic stainless steel also needs to be analyzed in the cross section in the vertical direction from the corroded surface.

In addition, I recommend observing the sample surface and monitoring the solution components before, during and after your experiment.

Best wishes and regards,

Koichi Kato, PhD.
