Clarify my doubt please in internet of things?

During my survey,what i observed are:There are 3 layers in IoT model.perception,transportation,application layer .In cisco model,what i read was edge layer is classified into edge node,edge communication,edge computing .i think edge computing is come under perception layer am i right?

What are the challenges we are facing in each and every layer?

Could we simulate edge computing security using any open source tool without any hardware? If So,could you suggest any open source tool ,please?
