Choosing spin restricted and unrestricted calculations?

Hi everyone,

I strongly curious about the output of the spin restricted and unrestricted calculations. During simulations, CASTEP program offers spin unrestricted calculations in some configurations . However, there are not any total energy differences between spin restricted and unrestricted calculations. Besides, mulliken and hirshfeld charges insignificantly deviates atom by atom.

What should I do? Is the total energy sufficient descriptor of choosing spin restricted or unrestricted calculations?
