The act of choosing is an act of affirming.
The art of worshiping is an act of repeating.

People choose to authenticate their existence.
Other people worship to authenticate their religiosity.

Religiousity is following other's path to God and spirituality is finding one's own path to enlightenment or "God"
The term 'religion' refers to the public worship of a god or gods... possibly goddesses, as well. The term 'religious' is the corresponding adjective. The term 'religiosity' seems to imply a degree of pretense or hypocrisy... thus the pharisees and scribes were said to be hypocrites.
The term 'spirituality' means anything and nothing. Lacking any further context it would seem to imply only a contrast to materialism. Very frequently it simply implies the worship of oneself... as in the case of 'tree huggers.'
Religion come from latin "religare", that means to be or to work or to enjoy or to cry together.
I looked up 'religion' in three online dictionaries... They trace it to 'religare' which they say means to tie fast or bind together.
Unfortunately, etymologies aren't necessarily all that helpful in understanding what a word means today.
It is important to know the genealogy of the words. The first meaning is always present in the words and help us to understand what are we talking about. Etymology is very important.
I choose to go to church sometimes, I choose not to go to church other times. I choose friends whom are nice, righteous and just, whom don't go to church, I choose to ignore church folk whom are rude, thieves and vulgar. The reverse at times also occurs, that is life. We all make choices day by day until the end, choice allows you to do what is right. That is my motto for what it is worth, live by example, not always by my example though.
