There are several ways that we as a a teacher/professor may ensure that our student's work is their own instead of using AI Model like ChatGPT:
One that I am practicing is by requiring students to submit drafts of their work so that as a teacher/professor I can monitor the progress of my students' writing and ensure that the writing is consistent with the student's abilities.
Another one that I am practicing is conduct in-person interviews with my students to discuss their writing and to gain insight into their thought processes. This can help to verify that the work is the student's own and that they have a clear understanding of the material.

The impact of ChatGpt on research students is a topic of concern for many academics and educators. While AI can certainly assist with various aspects of research, such as data analysis and literature review, the idea of relying solely on AI to produce a complete research work raises several red flags.
Firstly, the primary goal of a research program is to train students to become independent researchers who can critically analyze problems, design experiments, collect and analyze data, draw conclusions, and communicate their findings effectively. If AI were to take over the entire research process, it would defeat the purpose of a research degree.
Secondly, while AI can generate text based on patterns it recognizes in large datasets, it lacks the creativity, intuition, and originality that are hallmarks of human intellect. Research involves pushing boundaries, exploring uncharted territories, and making unexpected connections – skills that AI currently cannot replicate.
Thirdly, the relationship between a PhD student and their supervisor is built on trust, mutual respect, and open communication. The supervisor provides guidance, support, and constructive criticism throughout the research journey. If a student were to rely heavily on AI, it could undermine this relationship and compromise the quality of the research.
Lastly, academic integrity is a fundamental value in scholarship, and using AI to produce a full research work without proper citation and acknowledgment would be considered plagiarism. No matter how advanced AI becomes, it cannot replace the intellectual honesty and rigor required in academic research.
