A few questions about applying for CEng after achieving a PhD in Electrical Engineering and am currently in an Equipment development role that is related to my PhD:
1) Is it worth aiming for the additional qualification, CEng, after achieving a PhD?
If yes, then:
2) What are the benefits of having a PhD when applying for CEng? i.e. does it make it easier for applying, does the PhD studies cover a portion of the CEng application.
3) What are the benefits of having CEng after achieving a PhD compared to without? i.e. Industrial respect, job accessibility, pay rise.
Don’t mixed the Academic qualification(Ph D), with practical expertise qualification, CEng, which could be achieved with Bachler or Master Degree.....
They are two independent qualifications. It actually depends on what do you intend to do after completing your PhD. Staying in Academia does not requires you to have a CEng hence it would not give you an added advantage. Instead, if you plan to enter back in a professional engineering career, then CEng may help you but PhD is not at all a prerequisite to get a CEng title. You can do it even after MEng or BEng.
