I am trying to access understanding of team goals in teams which are collaborating virtually. The conditions in which the goals have not been elaborated. Can you share some reliable tools. (short if possible)
Initiatives with poorly defined goals and methods often have to do with research and organizational change projects. Here, a chaotic context owes to unclear directional sources. From the onset, especially if collaboration is virtual, team members must define the mission, engage in scenario planning, navigate and practice the strategy, refine the objective, and assiduously cater to team-building and engagement. There can be no stable project configuration (or "a good tool") in such cases: inspiration, negotiation, and communication will be paramount in what will be a conflict-prone state of affairs. In such an environment, the main project management approach will have to do with mission definition, refinement of objective(s), and team building. Valuable managerial aids will include (i) harnessing top talent, (ii) being flexible about the procurement of new skill types, (iii) stimulating creative thinking, (iv) identifying peers in and outside the organization, (v) tapping internal knowledge markets, and (vi) managing change.
The Aston Team Performance Inventory developed by West and colleagues has always been a very useful tool. Might be worth seeking out and seeing if you can adapt?
