Sensor that used in dishwashers measures upto 1000 NTU. And other professional sensors also measures similar but more accurate and a lot expensive.
In shrimp farming turbidity limits are 100 NTU. So using turbidity sensors from washing machines will have economical benefit.
The washing machine or dishwasher turbidity sensor can not be used for
shrimp farm because the precision is very poor. You can check the review comments of these sensor.
Yes the precision is very poor. But the application does not need precision. The turbidity sensor with good precision available in market around 500 $ at least. where as washing machine sensors around 10 $. The turbidity measurement is important in aquaculture because more turbidity leads to less sunlight hence less "DO (Dissolved Oxygen)". If farmers get to know that turbidity high then he/she can take action.
It would probably be best to go back to the old school Secchi disc if your use is for DO purposes.

The range of every sensor should be different. According to this case the sensor works on a principle of Light intensity in the output with respect to the input. Still the output sensing should be depend on how the sensor used for or what kind of application the sensor used for. here the sensor your try to do is like "lock an elephant in Dog cabin"
