I present this view to produce metal matrix composites using stir casting and squeeze casting.
Concept wise, both are different processes. A mechanical stirrer arrangement is required for stir casting to create a vortex for adding ceramic reinforcement particles into the molten matrix material. Conversely, liquid metal is infiltrated into a ceramic preform with or without pressure in squeeze casting. Some researchers transfer stirred composite melt into another chamber attached with stir casting set up and applied pressure during solidification. But, this can not be called as squeeze casting. Because, no ceramic preform is used. Hence, in this context, the same set up for stir casting can be used for merely melting the matrix materials. The molten metal is to be subsequently transferred to a squeeze casting set up where a ceramic preform along with force arrangements are kept.
