In his paper, Giller (2013) discusses the term "farming systems" and supports that "even the wealth of literature on farming systems research fails to give a clear definition". He concludes that "At the end of this analysis I have still failed to find a good definition of farming systems. I’m still searching!".
Well, I am also still searching for a widely accepted and good definition of a farming system.

Farming system defined as 'Raising of crop along with allied enterprises that have complementary relationship and sustainable basis production system with least damage to ecosystem and provide livelihood security to the peoples'.
To me a farming system is related to particular ecology. A sytem that tend to improve the productivity of farmers within a given ecology and is widely practiced by the communities to produce crops and livestock extensively. Specific scientic improvements are often made to sustain the system only but not to change it completely
A farming system is a mix of farm enterprises such as crop, livestock, aquaculture, agro forestry and fruit crops to which. farm family allocates its resources in order to efficiently. manage the existing environment for the attainment of the. family goal (Pandey et al 1992)
Hello Andreas, as part of a country with high agrobiodiversity I could say family farming is the way to produce in traditional or ancestral agriculture systems, mostly in the Andes. So, in Peru I think we cant include the term in conventional or even organic áreas.
Farm family is included here in that the family decides production resources of capital, land, human labor and farm inputs in order to efficiently ,manage the existing environment around the family so as to attain the goal of food security(access, adequate and right balanced diet)
