Citing from Wikipedia is a definite no no in academic research. You can refer to it for guidance, but please do not include it in your list of citations and references. :)
I would say that a wikipedia article generally wouldn't be appropriate. However, since they are supposed to provide references for the information in the entries, those 'original sources' should be more appropriate. I'm not an expert, but as I understand it, wikipedia entries are meant to contain non-controversial summaries of topics, and generally don't involve adding new (unsource) information, so generally there should be a better original source to be cited for any information you would get there.

And while we are at it, don't cite Webster's dictionary or Bob Marley. I like both but as soon as I see them being cited I feel like I am reading a High School report.
