There can't be any risk of opening results data basses. I think this is already happening in certain cases as most of the results are published openly in university websites.
THere are great differences according to countries. I think that not only databses (metadata) should be open, but all outcomes from reserach that was funded with public resources and/or where great pubic interest and benefit exist to make research results available free of cost to all.
Dear Pannilange Upali, is it possible that the databases and results are not the same? If we open the bases we will have to be more exhaustive with the procedures with which we work?
Dear Eberhardt Weber, is it possible to imagine what you are proposing for the private sector? I think of dynamics like those in the USA where companies finance much of the research?
In principle data should be available in order to ensure quality but there are a number of complications. The most obvious is that related to Corporate Projects where funders may allow publication but not open data. Another less discussed is research data from developing countries where access if often restricted. Many developing countries require foreign researchers to get permits to conduct research. Would these countries be keen on open data practices when they are not recipients?
Dear Merle, you talk about two very important issues. Firstly, I ask myself what is the nature of data legislation and private funding in universities? The second is: Could one think of colonialist practices of data management? How to optimize data management in underdeveloped countries? Thanks for your reply
