Most of the literature on digestive ripening includes a suitable proportion of ligand to metal ratio. Is it possible to carry out digestive ripening of metal nanoparticles without a ligand?
Digestive ripening has proved to be convenient and efficient method for preparation of narrow size distributed particles.
There may be be digestive ripening by tuning the physical properties like
(pH,Temperature,doping/substitution (powder materials) ,surface energy and surface tension etc...)
but from my point.............Ligands will
stabilise your Nano particle
Metal binding coordination compound possible
synergistic effect on catalysis between the two metal
first of all charge density in the surface will be very high and controlling the growth of the particle is very much hectic, they may coagulate/disperse/aggregate (due to vander waals forces) and may settle down...So need to have a suitable ligands for stabilise and it also play the role in tuning the morphology/properties for the nano particle of your consideration in your field of interest (optical, material study or biological.....)
The binding of metal Nanoparticle with the different ligand leads to enormous application in the field of nano world.
