Measures of diameters of young mangrove saplings can provide infromation about their above-/and belowground biomass. How about offering information on actual growth rates at the same time?
As we know, mangroves saplings may be in the same height and diameter for a long period of time up to they opened to light gaps. If we solely depends to measure the growth rate, it may be zero sometimes.
it is also possible to measure the height, number of leaves/fallen leaves, diameter of stem and the combination of all. Measuring the biomass is destructive...unless otherwise that is the only one method.
thanks for your nice summarizing answer. We're collecting all these information too, and agree with you, that they can help to make a statement of ongoing growth in an early mangrove restoration area.
