I noticed that some of the academic staff at several universities are keen to teach a different subject every year when they got lectureship jobs at the same university they are working in or when they moved out to another one.
Does this enhance their knowledge in their specialists or not?
I don't think enforcing this policy will warranty a positive impact, instead having policy to renew subjects taught by a teacher every year definitely would. In every case it is crucial for the staff to be motivated allowing them teaching the subjects they currently research and have appropriate level of proficiency with
The strength of teaching lies in the idea of mastery of subject matter if you teach a different subject every year u wont be able to have a mastery of your content thus reducing the strength of the staff

A teacher needs to be proficient in his core subject, but has to justify with other subjects of his department too. One can not deny of teaching other subjects of the department. And if someone never takes other classes then lose the tract of that particular subject. Most important thing is that the teacher should get proportionate time for teaching and research both,
